Amaretto cocktails
Amaretto is a very flavoursome base for cocktails that makes some delicious drinks. In my house, amaretto and Coke is a favourite before Christmas, drunk while wrapping presents and watching Home Alone.
Other times, we use one of the recipes below and mix up something extraordinary. Take a look for yourself.
What is amaretto?
Amaretto is a sweet, almond-flavoured liqueur that originated in Saronno, Italy.
Depending on the brand, it may be made from apricot kernels, bitter almonds, peach stones or almonds. They’re all natural sources of benzaldehyde, which gives the liqueur its almond-like flavour.
Amaretto is generally 21 to 28 percent alcohol.
Classic amaretto cocktails
Classics-wise, we have:
- Alabama Slammer, a far too drinkable cocktail that mixes amaretto, Southern Comfort, sloe gin and orange juice to make something unique… and boozy.
- French Connection, an elegant combination of cognac and amaretto. Yes, that’s all there is to it, and it’s delicious.
- Godfather, which, like the French Connection, keeps it simple: Scotch whisky and amaretto make a boozy after-dinner drink.
What amaretto should I use?
So, what amaretto should you use for your amaretto cocktails? Easy! Whatever you have in. But if you’re in the market for a new bottle, we recommend Disaronno.
