What ingredients do you need for a Blue Dolphin Martini?

To make a Blue Dolphin Martinin, you need the following ingredients…

Vodka

We compared 12 different brands of Vodka and determined that Smirnoff was the overall best option. Given the current climate with Russia, that may seem like a questionable choice, but Smirnoff isn’t made in Russia, it’s made all over the world.

It actually has a history of Russian persecution and the creators were forced to flee Russia.

Blue Curaçao

Blue Curaçao is a liqueur flavored with the dried peel of the Laraha citrus fruit, which is then artificially coloured blue for effect.

It’s a great ingredient to use in cocktails because it pretty much has everything you could ever want as a cocktail mixer:

  1. It has an enticing colour.
  2. It has a bitter orange taste that blends well with most flavours.
  3. It has a great amount of alcohol in it.

(You can read more about Blue Curaçao here, in our dedicated article)

For Blue Curaçao, we recommend:

Peach Schnapps

Peach Schnapps is a peach-flavoured varaint of the Schnapps alcoholic drink.

Schnapps may take several forms:

  • Distilled Fruit Brandy.
  • Herbal Liqueurs.
  • Infusions – i.e. the process of extracting flavours from plant material in solvent such as water, oil, or in the case of Schnapps – alcohol.
  • Flavour Liqueurs – this is where Peach Schnapps comes in.

The word Schnapps is a German term that refers to any kind of strong Alcoholic drink and over the years has become known as a style of drink. More about that here.

For Peach Schnapps, we recommend:

What Equipment do you need to make a Blue Dolphin Martini?

To make a Blue Dolphin Martini, you need the following equipment…

Cocktail Shaker

Cocktail shakers improve the taste of cocktails. It’s a fact.

There’s a reason that famed British spy James Bond says “shaken, not stirred”. And that reason is: because it tastes better.

If you don’t already have a cocktail shaker set, you might want to check out our detailed Cocktail Shaker comparison article.

But to cut a long story short, here’s the cocktail shaker we recommend:

Jigger

It’s important to get the mix of any cocktail right. The measurements are set for a reason – to specify a tried, tested, and tasty drink.

A jigger is going to help you get those perfect measurements – after all, it is what the pro’s use.

For a jigger, we recommend:

Strainer

If you (or perhaps the person you’re buying for) don’t have a Hawthorne strainer as part of a cocktail shaker set, it’s a great, and incredibly useful, cocktail gift you need in your cocktail toolbox.

The strainer is typically used to remove the ice (or any other unwanted solid ingredients) from your cocktail as it’s poured from the cocktail shaker into your glass.

For a Hawthorne Strainer, we recommend:

Martini Glass

This cocktail recipe tastes great, but let’s make it look great too.

Having the right glass for the right cocktail always makes the experience more enjoyable in my experience.

And the right glass is a cocktail glass.

We recommend:

Now, let’s move on to the recipe…

Mixing Tips

  • Chill the glass while you shake: fill it with ice and water, then tip it out just before you strain.
  • Blue curaçao is an orange liqueur coloured blue, so it brings a citrus note as well as the colour.
  • Shake hard. A properly cold tin is what makes it taste smooth rather than sweet.
